What is your presentation about?
Representatives from Prisma Health MOMs in Control of Diabetes team will be sharing an overview of a unique care model for high-risk patients with diabetes in pregnancy. Maternal Fetal Medicine will contrast the MOMs model with traditional care models in pregnancy. MOMs in Control of Diabetes is a multidisciplinary team incorporating obstetric, diabetes care, and endocrinology services with additional support for diabetes technology, retinopathy screening, remote patient monitoring, and overcoming food insecurity.

What makes this topic important in 2023?
Uncontrolled diabetes in pregnancy causes significant maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality. The prevalence of diabetes in pregnancy is increasing in the United States.

How did you become involved with this area of diabetes research or care?
I helped to develop medication algorithms for management of diabetes in pregnancy working with Maternal Fetal Medicine and Endocrinology. I work in the clinic with the MOMs team two days a week caring for high risk pregnant patients.

How do you think your presentation will impact diabetes research or care?
Specialized care teams should share successes and challenges to improve the care of this population. Presentation attendees will learn about opportunities for diabetes care and education specialists to collaborate with other disciplines to care for pregnant patients. Future studies of technology use in this population will help to inform care in this population.

What are you most looking forward to at the 83rd Scientific Sessions?
I am so proud to be a part of the MOMs team and share our model at the Scientific Sessions!
